AS&RS has an experienced, well-trained and dedicated workforce of RCOs.

Working as an RCO (Disability Support Worker)

The role of a Residential Care Officer (RCO) has many intrinsic rewards. As an RCO you will provide day-to-day assistance and services to people with an intellectual disability by ensuring that the person's emotional, social, financial and physical well-being needs are being supported to a high standard.

As an RCO you will ensure that people with an intellectual disability live in an environment which is least restrictive of their freedom and promotes community inclusion. RCOs focus on participant goals and outcomes and use support systems that reflect individual needs.

Work is undertaken within a typical AS&RS household where 2 to 4 people share their home and are supported by a team of RCOs working a 24-hour roster. RCOs work an 80 hour fortnight within a flexible shift rostering system.

In return for your interest and dedication to people with a disability, you will be rewarded with:

  • award wages that include shift allowances, penalties and other allowances such as meals and clothing as they apply under the Award for Operational Employees in Disability and Forensic Services - State 2016
  • flexible shifts
  • excellent job resources and personal development opportunities
  • 2 weeks of paid induction and upon successful completion of induction up to one week of paid service centre training
  • access to QSuper for superannuation, life and illness insurance
  • access to Accumulated Time Work (ATW) of 13 days per year
  • accredited training provided by a registered training provider
  • 5 weeks per year of vacation time when working full shift rotation.

If you're looking for a rewarding and challenging role and know you can make a difference in the lives of people with an intellectual disability phone one of our service locations.

It is highly desirable that all employees continue to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in line with health advice and their own personal circumstances.

The department will continue to comply with any future public health requirements and consider recommendations from government authorities in relation to COVID-19, in order to ensure the health and safety of the department's employees and participants. Mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for Residential Care Officers unless in the future there is a need to change the policy position following a review and consultation process.

National Disability Worker Screening is a mandatory requirement.
